Musical Theatre Vocal Styles (All Ages)
Sunday November 15, 2020 (3-4pm EST) Live Online!
Instructor: Carrie Lyn Brandon
In this class, we will discuss different genres of music that influence some of the most beloved musicals. Gone are the days where a Musical Theatre performer can only sing with a classic theatre sound. With shows like Hamilton, Spring Awakening, Mamma Mia, Waitress, and many more, it is important to be able to adapt to different styles. We will discuss these genres, and the artists who inspire some of our favorite musicals, and explore how to approach them in a vocally and stylistically authentic way.
Carrie Lyn Brandon is a bicoastal actor/singer/musician and voice teacher. She has performed in the National Tours of Once (Girl Understudy) and A Charlie Brown Christmas (Patty), been a lead soloist on cruises, sung as a featured performer with the California Symphony and Reno Philharmonic, and performed around the US in regional theatres. Favorite roles include Sophie in Mamma Mia (Sierra Rep and Mountain Play), Mary Jane in Big River (Sharon Playhouse), and Shelley in Bat Boy (Oregon Cabaret Theatre). She plays piano, guitar, mandolin and ukulele. When not performing onstage, Carrie enjoys teaching vocal technique to her students both virtually and in person when possible. She incorporates her training from Penn State University (BFA in Musical Theatre), as well as her many years as a voice student and teaching apprentice to Julliard trained voice teacher Suzanne Darley. Carrie is experienced in teaching singers of all ages and skill levels, and is extremely passionate about passing on healthy vocal technique.
